Finish close (days 31–60)
When I enter: day-30 gate passed — verbal/written offer or ≥2 finals — or the calendar hit day 31 and I’m still closing.
Success: signed by day 60, or a clear written decision on every remaining final. I do not expand the catalog. I do not start a new platform. I do not kill north-star warmth “until the ink dries.”
Mission I’d say to myself
Finish what the war room started. Convert finals → offer → signed letter. Keep 2–3 north-star threads warm without starving close energy.
Day 30 gate
→ Finals / verbal offers
→ Negotiate with the accept rubric
→ Sign by day 60
→ 2–3 north-star threads still alive
Weekly focus
| Window | Focus |
|---|---|
| Days 31–37 | Push every final to a decision. Ask timelines out loud. Thank-you + evidence links within 12h. |
| Days 38–45 | Verbal → written. Competing offers → rubric. Put a deadline on the calendar. |
| Days 46–53 | Negotiate level / scope / start date. Founding → verify equity + authority. Patch only panel-breaking demo bugs. |
| Days 54–60 | Sign or decline. Document the decision offline. North-star threads still warm for the bridge chapter. |
Daily quota (tighter)
4–8 high-signal actions, in this order:
- Finals / offer threads
- Negotiation prep (numbers offline)
- Spine warm-up only if a live review is scheduled
- North-star warmth — max 2–3 apps or intros. Do not restart spray.
- Pitch or multi-tenant only if a panel is within 48h
I stop: broad LinkedIn spray, new Forge products, catalog polish, Substack-as-main-job.
Operating rules
| Do | Don’t |
|---|---|
| Ask “What’s the decision timeline?” every loop | Ghost after a good final |
| One pitch + same STARs | Invent per-company brands |
| Patch demo failures that blocked a panel | Rebuild multi-tenant SaaS preemptively |
| Keep 2–3 north-star threads warm | Open 20 new apps and dilute finals |
| Score every offer with the rubric | Commit offer PDFs or exact asks to git |
What I actually say
On every loop, before they hang up:
What’s the decision timeline, and who owns the next step on your side?
If I have a verbal:
The ownership looks real. Can we get it in writing this week so I can score it against the other process I’m in?
If they want an answer tomorrow and I don’t have the written yet:
I can decide fast once I have the written package — level, scope, total comp, start date. I’m not going to bluff a number I don’t have.
If they ask whether I’m still talking to labs / FAANG:
I’m running one search. I’m serious about this seat. I’m also not going to pretend I have no other conversations. I’ll be straight about timelines.
If it’s Founding and equity is vague:
I need the grant, the pool, the strike, and who actually owns architecture in writing. “Founding” without those is a Senior job with a cooler title. I won’t sign on vibes.
12-hour thank-you (after a final):
Thanks for today — especially [specific probe]. Here’s the technical review if useful: https://venkat-ai.com/technical-review. What’s the decision date on your side?
If I’m declining:
I’m going to pass. The ownership isn’t [agents / RAG / governance / real equity]. Grateful for the loop.
If they go quiet after a strong final:
Checking in on timeline — still very interested. Happy to send any follow-up on isolation, evals, or the technical review. What’s the next decision date on your side?
I do not say “stepping stone.” I do not trash Lucid to make them feel chosen.
Multi-offer
Score with Accept / reject rubric.
Prefer: Staff+ / Sr Staff / Principal with real agent/RAG/governance ownership — or true Founding with equity + architecture authority. FDE / Applied counts when the embed is real.
Decline: non-AI rebadge; founding label without equity/decision rights; title without scope.
Rank by: ownership · total comp · leveling · geo · north-star signal — not logo alone.
Keep one competing process alive through sign when I can.
Negotiation checklist (offline)
- Level / title matches Staff+ / Sr Staff / Principal (or Founding with authority)
- Scope: agents, RAG, governance, evals, or clear 0→1 AI ownership in the first 90 days
- Total comp band vs market
- Geo / hybrid / relocate terms clear
- Start date workable vs Lucid / bridge timing
- Non-compete / moonlighting: can I keep north-star search quietly?
- Written offer received and reviewed
Day-60 gate
- Signed offer or clear decline/hold on every remaining final
- Rubric scored for every offer (offline)
- 2–3 north-star apps still warm
- No new repos during this chapter
- Spine demo failures on live calls = 0 (or documented and patched)
After I sign
I do not start from zero on north-star. Those threads were never supposed to die.
- First 90-day charter = governed agents / platform standards / evals — whatever the seat is called.
- Ask 3 people for AI-platform recommendations (replace iOS-era social proof over time).
- Keep quiet intros at 2/week unless the contract forbids it.
